Peace Day 2011

We celebrated International Peace Day at Severo Ochoa on Friday, January 28. January 30 is the day civil rights activist Mohandas Gandhi was killed. Each class was paired with a class from a different grade level and they worked together to learn about the importance of getting along, accepting differences, and constantly striving for world peace.

We played ¨Who Wants to be a Peace Maker?¨ -- a trivia game based on the television show ¨Who Wants to be a Millionaire?¨

The children were paired up with students of different ages to promote working together and understanding amongst themselves. Here, the older kids are helping the younger ones use the computer.

Teacher Ruben and Assistant Danny used the Smart Board to help instruct the kids on the importance of Peace Day.

Various outdoor games were planned for the kids. Here, the children are playing together with a parachute in the playground.

Again in the playground, the 3rd and 1st grade classes are playing a game with a ball.

Here, we are discovering the history of the pursuit of world peace and learning about how we can all get along. We learned a lot on Peace Day!
